A short introduction to the precious world of leather...

Leather is a noble and natural raw material that is mainly used for shoes, furniture, cars, clothing and bags. Approximately 500,000 tons of leather are produced every year - that's about 1.5 billion square metres.

Leather is a natural product, hard-wearing and warm. But leather also has a technical advantage over alternative materials. One gram of leather has up to 300 m² of inner surface, because its fine fibres are strongly interlaced.

As a result, leather has high resistance to tearing and bending, is resistant to ageing and temperature, and can absorb up to 30% water without getting "wet". Leather can also absorb moisture on the inside and release it to the outside. No substitute fabric, no artificial leather comes close to achieving these capabilities (see the detailed article on breathability. Especially for shoes, jackets or gloves, leather thus has a clear advantage and offers unrivalled wearing comfort.

Why do we use leather for our accessories?

Especially because it's not plastic and not artificial! Leather is a natural, high-quality material. We are enemies of plastics, which spoil quickly, take a long time to decompose and use a lot of energy and resources in their production. Leather is friendly to the environment, people and dogs.

Leather or nylon ?

You can find a wide range of different dog collars and leashes in the shops. Basically, you can choose between models made of nylon and leather. Of course, the nylon collars are much cheaper, but both dog and owner can benefit from many advantages with a leather collar.

The nylon collar has only one advantage over the leather models, it can be adjusted more flexibel as desired.

On the other hand, a leather collar is first and foremost very durable; with good care, the dog can wear it for many years. To prevent the material from becoming brittle over time, it can be greased regularly.

The leather is extremely robust, so it will not tear even when pulled hard. Especially for large dogs weighing at least 16 kilograms, a sturdy leather collar is definitely recommended. The animal does not mind it at all when wearing it, as the material fits perfectly around the neck and adapts flexibly. The wider and softer the leather collar, the more comfortable it is to wear.

We do not throw anything away. At DOG`S ATELIER we do not overproduce. We buy slowly - we only produce what we have an order for. That's why we don't have to store many components, we don't exploit other people or animals, we don't do business at the expense of nature.
